Lists

Bucket List Revisited

Friday, March 26, 2010

Maggie has written a few posts in which she lists random items from various people’s Bucket Lists. It’s so cool that she does it; it’s one of those things that helps make a real community out of people who don’t know each other or about each other, I think. Yesterday, she featured an item from one of my lists which prompted me to go back and have a look at the two posts I made containing my Bucket List. I had somewhat forgotten about the idea of making the list in order to be able to cross things off of it and was surprised that I’m now able to actually cross off a couple of things. I also think it’s so cool to see what other people are listing for themselves. Maybe I’ll add some things on to mine here and there.

For my own convenience, I’m combining the two lists into one in this post and am striking through the one or two that I’ve accomplished.

  1. Make a tasty pot of chili not involving a premade seasoning packet.
  2. Sit on that Japanese Bridge and dangle my feet over Monet’s Water Lily Pond.
  3. Get down to a single digit clothing size and stay there. – Working on it!
  4. Read a biography of Marie Antoinette that doesn’t put me to sleep.
  5. Go back to Scotland.
  6. Plant my own strawberries.
  7. Watch my kid accomplish some items on his own bucket list.
  8. Own a Victorian style home, complete with claw-foot tub, window seat, and sparkling crystal chandelier.
  9. Learn how to use my camera. Working on this one, too.
  10. Learn conversational French.
  11. Own and run a gift shop.
  12. Host Christmas at my house with all my family in attendance.
  13. Write the story involving the characters that have occupied a particular corner of my brain the last few years.
  14. Learn to sing again.
  15. Learn some Latin Ballroom dance.
  16. Live in a Historical District somewhere.
  17. Eat Sushi in Japan.
  18. Ride in a gondola in Venice.
  19. Cruise the Greek Isles.
  20. Make jewelry.
  21. Walk on the Great Wall of China.
  22. Go to a blogger’s conference and meet some of the people whose writing I read.
  23. Financial security and then some.
  24. Stay a night in Dracula’s Castle.
  25. See the Northern Lights.
  26. New Year’s Eve in Times Square
  27. Attend a Film Festival
  28. Skydive
  29. Visit New Orleans – I intend for this one to happen this year with one of my sisters, but we’ll have to see how it goes.
  30. See another play on Broadway
  31. Start a blog about redoing my houseI’ve rethought this one and I’m just going to talk about any renovations here on this blog, so this one’s off. However…
  32. Perhaps one about jewelry, tooI have just this week opened a blog on blogspot that I intend to be a fairly girly shopping blog, which will cover jewelry as well…if I ever get any posts written over there!
  33. Take a panoramic photo of NYC from the top of the Empire State Building
  34. Take a ship from the United States to Europe, instead of a plane
  35. Make a scrapbook or ten, can be digital and printed out using something like QOOP
  36. Read all these books I have about Scottish History and Mythology, then find and read more
  37. Live at the beach – one NOT prone to hurricanes or tsunamis
  38. Rockefeller Center when the Christmas Lights get turned on
  39. Photograph the Acropolis silhouetted against a full moon
  40. Tour a pyramid
  41. Stay in a B&B and experience Autumn in New England
  42. Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC (I could have crossed this off my list ages ago if I’d gone while I lived in Maryland – 30 minutes from DC. DUR!)
  43. Start AND complete a needlework project of some sort.
  44. Keep an orchid alive
  45. Have a rose garden
  46. Sit in a bathtub full of chocolate pudding
  47. Master the art of walking gracefully in high heels
  48. Attend Maggie’s Golden Gate Bubble Blowing expedition
  49. Live somewhere I WANT to live, rather than wherever life takes me
  50. Hire someone to clean my house so I don’t have to

Is anyone else with a list getting items crossed off? What’cha got?

Things I’m loving:

  • More justification for my need to sleep in, thank you very much.
  • These pretty turquoise dishes at Target - I wonder if I can get away with painting my living room this color…and whether it would actually look good?
  • turq1

  • Yellow Box flip flops, surprisingly. Surprising because I’d given up on finding comfortable flip flops with a strap that didn’t aggravate the skin between my toes – I am a precious, delicate flower, you know – but I was drawn in by the fuschia strap with the pink and iridescent sequins on top. They are quite comfy but I can’t find the particular style I bought online – I got them on sale at a nearby Belk.
  • I’ve heard lots of whining and complaining about the rain that has been falling here nearly non-stop for a week, but I’m kind of enjoying it. It’s keeping the temps cool and I’m sleeping like a champ. Also – GREEN ASPLODEY. I can’t remember the last time I saw so much lush, vivid green outside, it’s visually refreshing.
  • Wednesday is my final exam for my math class and then I’m done with school until August. I’m quite looking forward to having a break so I can catch up on fun things like…cleaning my house.
  • I’m not what I would consider a crafty person, and I have never made a scrapbook, but I LOVE scrapbooking papers. I found a Michael’s craft store today and wanted to bring home pretty much everything I saw. Instead, I stuck with a book to help me learn to crochet better so that I can make an honest attempt at making a decent baby blanket for my pregnant sister.
