Storage and Organization

I’ve not been doing much of interest lately except shopping. I’ve spent a bit of the money that I’ve been saving up for Christmas and now everyone’s going to be lucky to get a bag of Hershey’s Kisses on Christmas Day. One bag for everyone to share, for clarification. I don’t know, I see all these pretty things and I just get tired of denying myself, so I have to splurge once in a while, particularly on my house. I’ve been buying prints and photos to hang on my walls, such as:

White Storks Under the Azure Dome Stuff White Trees Like
(Thumbnails link to the Etsy shops where they can be bought.)

I also bought some photos of Destin from a photographer I found on Flickr. No, I haven’t given up that particular obsession yet, why do you ask? I am also hoping to find this photo by Yvette Inufio in her Etsy shop soon; I just love the peace it implies. So I’ve got all this art in mind but haven’t gotten the walls painted yet. Go me!

I’ve also organized my bathroom drawers. I’ve thrown out stuff I’ve never used, stuff that expired, and replaced the majority of my makeup. Thanks mostly to Aromaleigh, I am now the proud owner of a heck of a lot of makeup for someone who hardly ever wears makeup. But I love the sparkles and shimmers, and the colors are great. In order to get all that makeup and some of my other stuff organized, though, I bought some drawer organizers from Target. I feel a little OCD, but I like opening the top drawer especially, whenever I walk by, just so I can enjoy how neat it all looks:

Bathroom canisters

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

I was just surfing through my Stylehive account, deleting some dead links, when I came across these canisters from World Market:

canisters

I’ve been keeping my eyes open for jars or canisters like these for my bathroom; I’m kind of sick of the mess of stuff just piled up here, there, and everywhere on our bathroom counter and am considering attractive storage solutions. I like this set quite a bit, but may keep looking; these didn’t get many good reviews.

(Best blog post title EVER, by the way. Because I said so.)

Anyway.

Spring of this year has not, as of yet, stirred within me the usual frenzied desire to clean the house from top to bottom. Dusting? Still not done. I am pathetic. However, what I do have is a determination to organize things. Perhaps with the moving around and putting-in-its-place of everything, the cleaning frenzy will commence.

I started browsing around the good ole’ reliable Internet for my organizational needs today. I’ve decided I need holders for my magazines. I’ve got them lined up on a shelf here on my desk, but really, they need their own holders, they’re getting a little crumpled and I can’t stand crumples in my magazines. I also need a holder for the roll of paper towels in the kitchen, because really, what’s sadder than a roll of paper towels just sitting there on the counter? Not much, I guarantee. And since we’re at it, I might as well go for a gift wrap organizer/storage container, too, because I absolutely can NOT keep my 40″ rolls of Christmas gift wrap in the cardboard box with the Easter Baskets and Trick-or-Treat buckets. The gift wrap demands more spacious, less awkward accommodations, you see. Rather snobby, that gift wrap.

So, I look at The Container Store. Stuff for my magazines, although I prefer this onestuff for my paper towels, hurray! And a thing or two for my gift wrap needs, which are unfortunately not accommodating enough for the snobby 40″ long gift wrap. So the search takes me elsewhere; first, to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, where I find these:

Love! I’ve decided I need at least one of those so I have something in which to place the stuffed animals piled atop the hutch of my desk. But, as of yet, no suitable storage for the snobby gift wrap, so let’s move along to Crate and Barrel. It turns out that Crate and Barrel has neither crate nor barrel, oddly enough, but lots of nice storage baskets. (I love baskets, apparently, something I didn’t know before today.) Still nothing for the snobby gift wrap, so off we go to Target.

It’s a very good thing that I live within walking distance of a Wal-Mart instead of Target. I have never been able to come out of a shopping trip to Target without spending less than $100. Behold some of the reasons why:

I’ve no idea what I would store in any of those, or where in my house I would put them, but I would bring them home and then go back out to Target to buy something to put in them, because I am spendy like that – one of El Boyfriend’s least favorite traits in me, I think.

Now – what was I looking for again?
