(Or possibly beneficial if you’re a drag queen, too.)
I confess to having become a little bit obsessed with makeup here lately. It’s worse than when I was finally allowed to start wearing the stuff as a teen, because now there are BLOGS and YOUTUBE VIDEOS and INTERNET SHOPPING devoted to NOTHING but the subject of facepaint. Beyond buying and accumulating the stuff, I’ve even started wearing it. (I KNOW, CAN YOU IMAGINE???)
So I thought I’d just take a minute to mention some recent favorites.
* Favorite eye shadow EVER – Dulcinea by Aromaleigh Mineral Makeup:
The photo really doesn’t do this eyeshadow justice. I’m wishing I’d posted about this color before because it’s part of a Limited Edition Collection, and although the majority of the Limited Editions will start to become part of the permanent inventory, not every color in each collection will become permanent. It is the only product from Aromaleigh for which I have a backup, it’s that pretty. It’s the perfect shade of lavender with a soft, light blue-green sheen to it. Wear it on top of an eyeshadow primer and it’s like having your very own Northern Lights on your eyelids.
* Lip gloss – Zoya Hot Lips Lip Gloss
I’ m not a huge fan of lipstick. I own a couple, but the majority of my lip products are glosses. Lipstick is too high-maintenance for me, always wondering whether I need a touch up or what’s on my teeth. Lip gloss is much prettier, in my opinion, but I’ve had a bit of a hard time finding glosses with enough color in them. Enter Zoya. Zoya is more well known for their nail polishes, of which I do own a couple and they are REALLY pretty, but Zoya’s Hot Lips Glosses are awesome. My lips have either been wearing plain lip balm or one of Zoya’s lip glosses lately, and that’s it. When I go a little dramatic on the eyes I wear Smoochie, which is a slightly softer, more natural pink than the site indicates. Entourage is a color that’s been getting more daily use because I tend to go more neutral on the eyes if I’m wearing makeup during the day. Entourage is described as a medium cherry red, but sometimes it looks more berryish on me. Starlet is the one I’m most looking for an occasion to wear, it’s in the raspberry/fuchsia family and is SO pretty, but a bit more dramatic on me than Entourage, surprisingly.
* Mascara – Okay, Max Factor, I’m really not happy with you. Max Factor is no longer sold in the United States, which makes getting my hands on a replacement tube of much beloved 2,000 Calorie Mascara difficult unless I want to buy it online. Max Factor’s Website recommends Cover Girl products as replacements, but I’m currently trying out L’Oreal’s Voluminous Carbon Black. It’s pretty good but it’s still second place to 2,000 Calorie, for me. I’m still playing with it and getting used to using it, but my biggest peeve with this one is that the waterproof version is SO hard to remove. I use waterproof because regular mascara tends to smudge a lot on me. The flip side is it takes three days for this formula to completely wash off, so I’m not wearing mascara that often, but when I do, I like how it looks. DiorShow has been getting a lot of rave reviews, but I’m unwilling to splash out $24 for a mascara unless it makes me fart glitter.
And…I think that’s where the girliness in this post ends. So ladies, let’s talk makeup if you want, what are you using these days that you love?
